The two-time Olympic swimming champion, Sun Yang, who is being detained for 7 days and fined, after he was caught driving without a license when his Porsche SUV was involved in a crash with a bus.

The star swimmer was uninjured in the accident in Hangzhou. Sun was driving the luxury vehicle, which he claimed was borrowed from a relative when a bus hit him from behind.

Police then found the 21 year old could not provide a driver’s license, with Sun admitting he didn’t have one. This was the report that was filled out following the crash. Sun has now apologised to his 20 million followers on Sina Weibo, saying: "I should have been a role model, as an athlete and a public figure, but I failed in my responsibility,".

He continued: "I am deeply sorry for what I have done and will reflect on my behavior. Sun Yang shot to fame after becoming the first Chinese man to win an Olympic swimming gold medal in 2012, transforming him into one of the country’s most sought-after sportsmen. He also won three titles - in the 400, 800 and 1500-meters freestyle in August’s Swimming world championships.
